The Conversion Rate from Serum Progesterone and Deoxycorticosterone, Deoxycorticosterone Sulfate in Maternal, Fetal, and Placental Compartments during Pregnancy and Delivery

Abstract
The origin of DOC in maternal serum that is not controlled by ACTH or dexamethasone, was studied by radioimmunoassay.
The progesterone level in the umbilical venous serum was higher than those umbilical arterial serum or maternal serum.
The DOC level in umbilical venous serum and DOC-S level in umbilical arterial serum were highest.
In the third trimester progesterone which is produced in the placenta, may be transferred to fetus and converted to DOC-S.
DOC-S may return to the placenta and is converted to DOC and is transferred to mother.
